Now that you’ve lost some weight, maintaining your target weight can be just as difficult. The good news is that the hardest part is actually behind you, the difficulty from here on out is actually in simply maintaining good living habits so that you don’t fall back into your old ways. If you want to stay in shape, you’ve got to stay on top of it. Here are some tips to keep you going…
Don’t Skip
Suppose your workout routine has you doing fifty situps and fifty pushups every other day, and running a mile on the other days, with Sunday taken off to sleep in. That’s fine, it’s just enough exercise to keep you in good shape. Now, unless you break your leg or get sick or get called into work early or something, don’t skip a day of working out. One day can easily become two days, two can become three and so on. Luckily, by this point, you’ll probably be addicted to that buzz you get from working out every morning.
Moderating
Some people like to starve themselves of anything sugary or salty. This actually doesn’t work out in the long run. Besides the fact that your body actually does need sugar and salt to stay healthy, if you never ever eat your favorite foods, if you never touch Italian food anymore or have so much as a couple slices of pizza now and then, you’re only pushing yourself towards a binge. Eventually the cravings get so heavy that you can’t think of anything but eating a whole chocolate cake. Treat yourself to something tasty now and then, just moderate yourself, don’t pig out. Watching calories for weight loss means eating the right amount of food, not eating nothing at all.
Don’t Stress
The stress of worrying about your weight is actually worse for you than being overweight, so stop worrying. Take it easy, do your exercises, eat well, and if you gain a pound or two here and there, who cares? As long as you’re within ten pounds or so of your target weight, you’re at least healthy and can always burn those pounds away with a few extra sit ups each morning.
